New Features in Version 13

  • Highlighter (add a highlight by dragging the cursor on the text)

  • Restored ability to navigate to the last hit by using GoTo entry with a verse/book beyond the range of the hits.

  • A User Tool problem with a pasted Location URL would prevent updating. For now, Accordance will detect the hyperlink style and convert the color to black. A future rev will update the User Tool to extract the links and build a proper hyperlink.

Searching Enhancements:

Text Display Enhancements

Parallel Texts improvements

  • Parallel Text panes can now combine three Texts in the pane view.
  • Added support for the display of parallel Text modules with books with other corpora besides the Text’s primary corpusClosed Collection of writings.
  • If the Search Text has books with other corpora, the pull-down menus for each pane and for the submenu for Add Parallel>Texts now show all parallel texts for each corpus present in the Search Text. The extra texts for corpora that are not the main corpus of the search text are listed below texts with the main corpus separated by a divider in the menu.
  • Added the option to include alternate texts from other corpora when adding Alternate Texts to a pane. These extra alternative texts are added as a submenu in the menu item “Other Texts”.
  • Alternative Texts panes are able to remove individual alternative texts in a pane.

Expanded Localization

  • Added initial support of Localized Hebrew and Greek Glosses, and Parallel Section Heading titles. Localizers are still working to complete the supporting information.
  • Added support for localized Topic titles, including searching for them, and their word list. This also has a change where the (TOPIC) command has UTF8 characters, like already done for LINK, HITS, etc.
  • Section Headings are localized in the Info Pane, if pulling from the Outlines module (i.e. no Section Headings in the text from the publisher).
  • The Parallel Section Heading title is localized in the Info Pane.
  • The Hebrew and Greek Glosses is localized in Instant Details.

Scrolled content improvements:

  • Mouseover highlighting now works between tied tabs, instead of only between panes in the same tab. This applies to tied Text and Text Browser tabs.

Updated Find/Replace features

  • Added support for a simple Find dialog box to find text within the immediate context of Search results in the following tab or panes: Research, Text, Tool, User Note, User Tool, Paper, or Stack.
  • Significant redesign of the Find/Replace dialog into a floating window, with Find and Replace modes, optimized controls, and language entry button.
  • A Find result is displayed in a yellow rectangle with drop shadow rather than the normal selection color.
  • Various optimizations of the Find algorithm to better support Edit windows with mixed encodings.
  • New keyboard shortcuts to change the language of the Find or Replace fields.

Major upgrades to the PDF Import Parser:

  • Much better compatibility and support.
  • Fully cross-platform code, so PDFs imported on either Mac or Windows should look the same.

Other Enhancements

  • Added new Safe Mode dialog option "Remove unused settings files" that will clean up many files left in the Accordance Preference folders.
  • Added tutorial support for dragging and dropping items around the Set Analysis Display dialog and a large variety of construct actions.
  • Accordance is now a Universal app (M1/Apple Silicone/ARM).
  • Minimum version is macOS 10.9.

  • Added support for searching for SUFFIX pronom on the updated MT-ETCBC text that specifies gender/number/person. To maintain support in old version, the search can be for either P, 1, 2, or 3.

  • French Timeline localization completed.
  • Library context menu items:
  • The "Export Selected Data" is now dimmed if a text is selected, since this option only works with Tools.
  • When nothing is selected, the option now reads "Export All Data", to indicate that bibliography data will be exported for ALL tools where it is available.
  • The "Print" and "Copy Picture" options will now be dimmed unless nothing is selected, to indicate that these options apply to the Library as a whole, not to selected items.
  • Updated the rendering of the Syntax Tree pane for the Andersen-Forbes Hebrew database to not draw any lines to the Qere words in brackets.
  • Changed preference name "Insert citation as footnote" to read "Insert citation only as footnote", to help clarify that no citation will appear when pasting into apps that don’t support RTF footnotes.
  • Changed Help menu link from "Podcasts" to "Videos" to reflect current training resources.

  • Live click now works in the Alignment pane for verse lookup, lexicon lookup, and word usage.
  • Added support for the analytics of a negative Intertext search using the Text command, like ברא@-[LXX1 ποιεω]
  • When clicking on a Hebrew Research Pie chart section, the resulting search will now be the same (grammatical vs literal) as the source research. Because of this, the “Letters” and “Flex” fields will now work in Accordance URLs.
  • Added Accord URL support for opening a Syntax database and optionally scrolling to a verse:
  • Syntax is the "study" action with "syntaxClosed The analysis of the function of each word in a clause or phrase" as the type. (e.g. accord://study/syntax?MT-AFD.syntax#Psa._10:3)
  • Links can be generated with a right-click in the Syntax pane to link to the verse clicked inside.
  • Added support for performing MT-LXX actions on new MT-AFD text using the TEXT command.
  • Added support, when displaying Syntax results in the Analysis, to account for both bracket type and subType, distinguishing between forms like P and Pc.
  • Tutorial categories in the tutorial menu are alphabetized based on the selected interface language.
  • It is now possible to copy information from Accordance error messages using +c. The text of the error message does not need to be selected for this to work. The copied text will include debug information which should help developers identify the circumstances that lead to the error message.
  • French and Chinese Localization updates.

  • When copying as a citation, with "Include ‘accord://' location URL" selected in the Citation or Bibliography settings, the hidden link to the Accordance URL will now be blue and underlined.
  • Two new tutorials: Opening the Timeline and Amplifying to the Timeline.
  • Improved amplifying to the Timeline when the selected text has a wide range:
  • If the amplified items (such as "John") span more than 500 years, or are in non-adjacent regions, a dialog is displayed allowing the user to choose which items to add to the Timeline.
  • Timeline items show their localized name, if appropriate.
  • If there are multiple times with the same name (such as "Titus") then the item class is also shown.
  • The “Dropbox Sync” toolbar button is now just “Sync”.

  • New Targums WordMap feature:
  • Targums WordMap Text pane displays alignments between the HMT-W4 and Targum Texts.
    Note: Requires grammatically-tagged Hebrew Texts and Aramaic Targums.
  • The Targums WordMap Text pane supports Instant Details, cross highlighting, triple click, and text selection.
  • The Targums WordMap is accessed from the Library, or as a Parallel Pane.
  • The Targums WordMap is found in the "Databases" Library section, which was previously named "Syntax & Diagram".
  • Amplify to Website
  • Added the ability to amplifyClosed To select words or a reference and search for the selection in the text or tool of your choice. You can select the resource in the Library or Amplify menus. A triple-click is a shortcut which amplifies to the top tool of the relevant category. to a website from the Right-Click menu, Amplify menu, and Toolbar Button.
  • Items in the new "Website" menu can be customized through the External Websites preference page.
  • Default External Websites list includes a set of default search engines and free access resources.
  • Interface Enhancements
  • Added an option to the Right-Click "Look Up" menu to open the Instant Details pop-up (helpful for users on Windows tablets).
  • Added a new General Theme: Grayscale.
  • TEXT Command Search Improvements
  • Added a "Show Characters…" option to the bottom of the TEXT command list, allowing use of the Character Palette.
  • The TEXT command can now limit search results based on the number of words in the match.
  • Intertext Analysis:
  • The Set Analysis Display for Key Number Texts uses the same interface as the Analysis display for grammatically-tagged Texts, with columns and a palette.
  • The Intertext Select dialog works from the Analysis Graph tab or the Set Analysis display dialog.
  • Searching Improvements
  • When Live Click is set to open a Research Tab in a custom group, an "=" will be inserted before the reference if holding the Opt key. This forces a search for the exact reference instead of a verse range.
  • Added "Recent Modules" to the list of items on the Amplify menu.
  • Added new Text Comparison option to ignore homograph differences, such as ברא_2 vs ברא_1.
  • Syntax database Improvements
  • All Syntax dialog boxes and Preferences with the item label “Maximum search depth” have been changed to “Default depth” to support the new flexibility of the depth item for Syntax searching.
  • The interface for handling the depth of searching in a clause (or in a phrase) in the Construct tab has been changed as follows:
  • Instead of a single depth for the entire clause, the depth can be set for individual items within the clause.
  • In the clause dialogs, the depth setting is now the default depth setting. Any new items added under the clause will use the current default, which can be changed after items are added.
  • The individual depths are displayed as a single number above each column. This number can be changed by use of a floating pop-up menu which appears when the cursor is near the depth numbers along the bottom of the clause item.
  • Added support for setting the individual column depths when pressing a number on a selected clause or phrase item.
  • If the search depth option to “Allow hits within sub-clauses” is off or disabled, the depth numbers will appear red rather than black.
  • Saving and recalling the new option for individual depths is supported.
  • Added a new Syntax Tree display dialog
  • User Content Improvements
  • Added a new feature: "Modify Entire User Note/Tool":
  • This opens a dialog that allows for a batch application of a variety of style changes, such as scaling all font sizes, removing styling, etc.
  • It has a default shortcut of Cmd-Opt-U and appears in the Selection menu.

  • Add a new Paper item as the parent by pressing Shift+ Opt+Return.
  • User Tools
  • Pictures are now included when importing a PDF to a User Tool.
  • User Notes
  • Added a preference to auto-save User Notes when the edit window is closed.
  • Easy Install & Check for Updates Improvements
  • Updated Easy Install with a new “Download All” button.
  • Importing/Exporting Content Improvements
  • A new Web & Text Browser preference allows interleaving of verses when exporting.
  • A new Export preference allows drag-and-dropped content from a Text or a Tool to be formatted using the appropriate citation or bibliography format settings.
  • Timeline
  • Added a Report button on Timeline item popovers to open a report for the timespan of the selected item.
  • Added the ability to amplify to the Timeline by verse reference.
  • Added 5 new Timeline background colors and 1 new Timeline item color, so all possible options can have a unique color.
  • Miscellaneous
  • The Library Action Menu now has the option to display the location of a User Tool, User Note, Stack, Paper, or Workspace in the Finder. This action can also be performed by right-clicking on the User Item.
  • Added a new Export preference to preserve original diacriticals when not exporting all characters with Unicode format.
  • Added a Dark Mode skin for the Accordance Help interface.
  • Location URLs in a Text citation are now embedded in the verse reference.
