New Features in Version 11

Following is an overview of new features in Version 11 of Accordance Bible Software. For more information on working with one of these new features, click the linked text. This page summarizes changes in the main version 11 release. For subsequent changes in this release, please refer to the topics for each release.

  • New Info Pane (added via the Add Parallel menu): Displays useful information for the top verse (in the main pane), including:
  • Commentaries with information on this passage, based on the Library order; the default number of commentaries initially displayed is set in the Set Info Pane Display dialog box
  • All cross-references to the passage, including key words (if using the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge Enhanced), set in the Set Info Pane Display dialog box)
  • Topics relevant to the passage including Dictionary, Atlas, and Timeline look-up; press Shift+click on a topic to locate all verses associated with the topic
  • All Parallel Passages (pericopes) across installed parallel tools
  • All Apparatus, if installed
  • For non-biblical verses, displays the top Reference Tools for the passage.
  • Quick Entry in the Search Entry box: You can quickly enter information from a pop-up list that refines available search options as you type; simply select the desired offered item and Press Enter or Return to search for a Quick Entry. Entries can be in any language, and may also include symbols used in search commands or appearing in unusual book names. For example, typing Elijah_ lets you quickly enter A or B in the Pseudepigrapha.
  • Expanded Functionality of User Notes
  • New Notes file format: XXX.amynotes. The new file format enables use of a single Notes file across all corpuses and tools. You can convert all old User Notes files from the *.acc4 format to the new format via the User Files area of the Preferences dialog box.
  • Full support for Unicode content
  • Add Notes to Tools, in same manner as for Texts; press +U or click the pencil in the margin (Add User Note icon, appears as you mouse over the right margin of a Text pane).
  • Right-click the pencil icon (Add User Note icon, appears as you mouse over the right margin of a Text pane) to quickly choose which User Notes file to use. The most recently used file can be automatically selected via the User Files area of the Preferences dialog box.
  • Notes for Tools are attached to a word in a paragraph, allowing multiple notes per paragraph or line.
  • New layout of the User Notes tab for easily locating and reading all your notes.
  • The User Notes tab includes a browser pane to easily navigate all notes in the file.
  • New Preferences affecting User Notes are provided in the User Notes Display area and User Files area of the Preferences dialog box.
  • New Categories and More
  • The Library now has five permanent main sections: Recently Opened, Texts, Tools, Backgrounds, and My Stuff.
  • In menus, Texts are automatically identified and categorized into one of five main menu categories: Modern Bibles, Greek Texts, Hebrew Texts, Latin Texts, and Other Texts. Your custom arrangement of Texts in the Library is automatically organized within the appropriate menu category.
  • All other resources can now be automatically reorganized in the Library according to a large range of new categories with associated icons. When using this automatic organization (at Startup or via the Appearance area of the Preferences dialog box), custom organization is removed. However, you can then rearrange all Tools to the desired category and folder, regardless of type (except for Parallels).
  • Library categories in the Tools section can be moved, renamed, deleted, or placed inside other categories and folders.
  • Any Tool tab can be switched to include any Tool from any Tool category.
  • The default action of a triple-click on a word is now defined in a new Amplify area of the Preferences dialog box.
  • Enhanced Bookmarks
  • Permanent Bookmarks can be created in any Text or Tool (including Parallels)
  • Bookmarks are listed in the Library and can be organized or opened (double-click to view)
  • Navigate between Bookmarks in a module using the Bookmarks pop-up menu in the Navigation bar
  • Press Shift+Opt and click to add a Bookmark
  • Bookmarks can be synced via Dropbox to other devices
  • Remember My Place: When closing or navigating through a module, the location is remembered and used when reopening that module; this feature works across devices if you have synced the current session via Dropbox.
  • Get Verses: Press Opt++A to insert verses into another word processing program on your computer
  • New terminology: The Argument Entry box is now referred to as the Search Entry box throughout the Accordance Help

Additional EnhancementsAdditional Enhancements

  • Additional information displayed with the 2011 New International Version with Goodrick-Kohlenberger Key numbers.
  • New Unicode Display area in the Preferences dialog box for choosing the Unicode font and style for display of Unicode original language content in upgraded User Notes, and for choosing the Unicode font and style to use when exporting original language Text.
  • New TOPIC search command: The [TOPIC ?] command helps you quickly find all verses in a Text that have been associated with a particular topic.
  • Easy Install and Downloads: Packages can be partially installed using disclosure triangles to access individual files; improved servers assure improved speed and reliability of downloads
  • Combined Resources: Compatible reference Tools can now be combined as sets in the same manner as for combining Texts; hence, this command has been changed from Combined Texts to Combined Resources. For example, the WBC-OT can be combined with the WBC-NT.
  • Interlinear information can now be printed.
  • Choose which Accordance elements to syncClosed From the word synchronization; the process by which data is moved from a computer to a mobile device such as an iPad or iPhone via Dropbox, including the Current Session.

    When selecting the Current Session, you can work on one computer, go somewhere else, and continue where you left off—even if you didn't restart or quit Accordance. If a new session is detected on Dropbox, you will be asked if you want to load the new session (i.e. the current session from your other computer), or ignore it.

  • The Setup Assistant has been redesigned, including the ability to skip optional settings and reopen it via the Help menu. This includes a warning regarding potential User Notes iOS incompatibility if upgrading your User Notes files. iOS compatibility will be offered in a future version of Accordance. You can choose to upgrade all User Notes files or cancel the Upgrade.
  • New/Revised Shortcut Keys to enter commands in the Search Entry box
  • To add a [TOPIC ?] command, press Shift+ +T
  • To add a [TAG ?] command, press Shift+ +G
