Highlight Words

Highlights can be applied to any Bible Text, and to any other Texts in the Text pane of the Search tabClosed The core tab used to search Bible texts, it consists of a search entry area and a search results area or other tabs. When words are highlighted in an activeClosed The application, window, tab, or other screen element which is currently being used; sometimes called the "front" or "frontmost" screen element pane, any other Texts displaying the same version and verse are also highlighted. Once applied, the highlighting is automatically saved and displayed whenever that version is reopened.

Highlight styles can be overlapped, but if the colors themselves overlap, only one color is visible. You can use offset lines, striped patterns, and hollow shapes to show multiple styles on the same words.

Highlight styles are applied using the Highlight popover, Highlight floating window, a keyboard shortcut, or a shortcut menuClosed Also known as a contextual menu, acessed by right-clicking (or pressing Ctrl+Click, Mac only) over a screen element. You can also remove highlighting. Each of these tasks are detailed below.

  1. Select the words (or parts of words) you want to highlight. Highlight buttons are displayed.

  2. Click the Highlight Palette button () to access the Highlight Popover. The Highlight popover appears.

  3. Click the style in the Highlight popover. The Highlight style is applied to the selected word(s) and the popover automatically closes until needed next time.
  4. To apply a Highlight symbol, proceed as follows:
  5. If the symbols area is hidden, on the Action menu (Action pop-up menu: Provides additional options ), choose Show Highlight Symbols. The Highlight symbols area appears under the Highlight styles.

  6. Click the desired symbol. The symbol appears, centered, under the selected word.

    The symbol size depends on the font size and line spacing. Increasing the line spacing increases the symbol's size without increasing the font size.

  1. On the Toolbar, click Highlights (), or from the menu bar, select Window>Highlights>Live Highlights.

  2. To apply a Highlight style, proceed as follows:
  3. If you have created more than one Highlight file, select the Highlight file that contains the Highlight styles you want to use. Styles available in that file are displayed on the Highlight popover.

  4. Click the style in the Highlight popover. The Highlight style is applied to the selected word(s).

  5. To apply a Highlight symbol, proceed as follows:
  6. If the symbols area is hidden, on the Action menu (Action pop-up menu: Provides additional options ), choose Show Highlight Symbols. The Highlight symbols area appears under the Highlight styles.

  7. Click the desired symbol. The symbol appears, centered, under the selected word.

You can use shortcut keys to apply the last used Highlight style to a selection.

  1. Select the words (or parts of words) you want to highlight.
  2. Press Ctrl+8. The last used Highlight style is applied to the selection.
  1. Select the words (or parts of words) you want to highlight and right-click. A shortcut menu appears.
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. To apply a Highlight style to the selected word, on the shortcut menu choose Highlight>*Style Name*, where *Style Name* is one of the available Highlight styles in the Highlight file that was last opened.
  4. To apply a Highlight symbol to the selected word, on the shortcut menu choose Highlight>Symbols and select the desired symbol. The Highlight symbols appears centered under the selected word.

Note

If the Highlight style you wanted is not listed, it may be stored in a different Highlight file. Select a different Highlight file via the Highlight popover.
  1. Click any part of the highlighted word(s).
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. Open the Highlights popover and click Clear.
  4. Right-click and choose Clear Highlight from the shortcut menu that appears.

    The Highlight style or symbol is removed from the word(s).
