Amplify to Context

After performing a search, the Search tabClosed The core tab used to search Bible texts, it consists of a search entry area and a search results area normally displays only those verses which contain the words you were looking for, that is, the "hit" words.

In a search for "the earth," verses 15 and 17 of Genesis chapter one would be displayed; but not verse 16, since it does not contain a "hit". This example walks you through the steps for amplifying to the surrounding context for any hit verse.

  1. Select a Verse. For example, click anywhere in Genesis 1:15 of the KJVS to select that verse.
  2. On the AmplifyClosed To select words or a reference and search for the selection in the text or tool of your choice. You can select the resource in the Library or Amplify menus. A triple-click is a shortcut which amplifies to the top tool of the relevant category. menu, choose Context. A new Text tab opens displaying Genesis 1:15 in the context of the entire Bible.
  3. By default, two verses preceding the selected verse are displayed in the new Text tab to provide additional context. You can choose not to display the preceding verses by selecting When opening context, put source reference at top in the Amplify area of the Preferences dialog box.

Hint

Another way to view verses in their surrounding context is to use the Add Context slider in the Search tab. To do this, simply move the slider to the number of verses you want to appear above and below each "hit" verse. The Search tab is immediately updated to reflect the new context setting.

You can quickly access the Context command via the Workspace toolbar; simply add the Context (This item must be manually added to the toolbar) button to it.
