Modify Curves

You can easily modify curves with the selection tool:

• Drag a point to move it, or drag the line to move the whole curve.
• Drag a handle to adjust the curve on both sides of a point. The handles remain the same length and aligned at 180°.
• Hold down Ctrl+Shift as you drag a handle to break the alignment between the handles. The line now forms an angle at this point; as long as the Ctrl+Shift keys are held down, you can independently adjust each side. If you release the keys and move a handle, the other side snaps back into alignment.
• If the point has no handles visible, drag them out by holding down on Ctrl+ as you drag from the point.
• Press Ctrl+Shift to drag just one handle from a point.

You can change any of the Line options for the curve.

Fill applies to a curve only when it is closed, and disappears when it is open.

• To create a filled object, close the curve by dragging the last point to the position of the first point—it will snap into place, and any fill will appear.
• The two points are not merged per se—you can separate them at any time.

Use the add () or delete () points tools to change the number of points on a curve. This also changes the shape of the curve.

• To add a point on the line, select the Add Points tool and click at the desired position.
• To draw out handles for the new point, drag the Add Points tool on the line.
• To remove a point, and have the line drawn between the two adjacent points, select the Delete Points tool and click on the point.
• To lengthen a line, add a point before the end, then drag the end point to a new position.
• To return to the Selection tool, click anywhere except on the curve.
