Preferences: Text Display
Prerequisites for use: None; this dialog box can be opened at any time.
Use: Text Display preferences is used to set default display of all installed Text modules
Any Bible text, or other single tool that can be read in Accordance, including reference texts and articles; may also be referred to as content or resource in any tab. This area has three main sections:
- The Theme section on the left is used to select the default theme, font, and line spacing applied to all texts.
- The Customize section is used to change the selected theme according to your preferences.
- The Advanced section is used to set other Text display items such as the specific font, color, and more.
Open: Click Text Display in the list of the Preferences dialog box. The Text Display area is displayed (labeled "Default display for ALL Bible and other texts."

Note When you open or reopen this area of the Preferences dialog box, it displays the current default settings for the first English text on the pop-up menus. |
Themes Section: Text Display Area of the Preferences Dialog Box
- Theme Pop-up Menu: Opens a list of pre-defined Themes that can be applied globally to all Text modules. The theme is previewed in the bottom preview pane.
- Size Pop-up Menu: This item sets the default font size for all Themes, and appropriately scales the References font size. Hence, changes here affect the font size of the text and the verse references in the text.
- Show as Pop-up Menu: Available options specify the layout of verses in the text.
- Paragraphs: The text of contiguous verses is shown as a continuous stream, starting a new line only for a new paragraph.
- Paragraphs With Space: The same as Paragraphs, except a blank line is placed between each paragraph.
- Separate Verses: Each verse is displayed on a separate line. Superscripted verses are not supported if this item is selected.
- Separate With Space: The same as Separate Verses except that a blank line is placed between each verse.
- References Only: Omits the text and shows only the verse references.
- Line Spacing Slider: Move the slider to add space between text lines and improve readability. The text displays and prints with the line spacing set here.

Note Choosing one of the Paragraphs items dims the Above Verse item in the Format pop-up menu (Reference area), and vice-versa, as these options are mutually incompatible. |
Customize Section: Text Display Area of the Preferences Dialog Box
- Contents Area: Options in this area set the Custom format for display of text verses. The default settings are those of the currently selected Theme. Changing any item in this area changes the Theme name to Custom.

Font, Color, and Size Pop-up Menus: Used to apply a specified font, color, and size to the Text modules. Changing the Font item here does not affect the font of the verse references, which is set separately.

The following options may not apply to all Texts. When selected, these options are applied to the Texts, where applicable.
- Search highlighting area: Options in this area are used to choose how "hit" words are displayed in the text.
- Color Pop-up Menu: Used to choose from a wide selection of colors, or creating a custom color.
- Choose Custom Color: Opens the standard
- Custom: Selects the currently defined custom color.
- Style Pop-up Menu: Used to set the style of "hit" words. The word "Sample" displayed next to the option displays the currently selected style. To remove a style, select it again from the menu, or select Plain Text to remove all styles. Available styles are: Bold, Italic, Underline, Outline, Shadow, and Plain Text.
- References area: Options in this area are used to format the verse references.
- Font, Color, and Size Pop-up Menus: Used to apply a specified font, color, and size to all verse references in Text modules. Changing the Font item here does not affect the font of the text, which is set separately.
- Style Pop-up Menu: Used to set the style of "hit" words. The word "Sample" displayed next to the option displays the currently selected style. To remove a style, select it again from the menu, or select Plain Text to remove all styles. Available styles are: Bold, Italic, Underline, Outline, Shadow, and Plain Text
- Background area: Options in this area set parameters for display of the entire text.
- Color Pop-up Menu: Used to choose the background color of the pane. A variety of colors including pastels and black are offered. You can also set a custom color.
Advanced Section: Text Display Area of the Preferences Dialog Box
- Contents Area: Items in this area relate to the default display of Text modules, regardless of the Theme selected.
- Hide verse highlighting and Hide word highlighting: When selected, color highlighting of verses or words, respectively, is turned off.
- Hide red letter: When selected, turns off red letter text coloring used in some Bibles for words attributed to Christ.
- Suppress poetry: When selected, removes the short line formatting applied to poetry, so that all text appears as prose.
- Hide superscripts: When selected, displays text without the super-scripted numbers and letters that refer to footnotes.
- Hide spaces: Displays Greek or Hebrew texts without spaces to approximate the early manuscripts.
- Show book titles: Displays book titles directly in the Text display.
- Show section headings: Displays section headings (pericope A set of passages (one or more verses) which have been identified as a unit (for example, parallel passages)/outline headings) directly in the Text display.
- References Area: Options in this area are used to format the verse references.
- Format Pop-up Menu: Used to specify how references should appear. Available items are:
- Above Verse: The reference is placed on a line by itself, with the text of the verse beginning on the following line.
- Before Verse: The reference is placed at the beginning of the first line of the verse text.
- After Verse: The reference is placed at the end of the last line of the verse text.
- Omit Entire Reference: Displays the text of verses without references.
- Omit Book and Chapter: Displays only the verse number. The book name and chapter number appear only for the first verse of each book and chapter, respectively.
- Omit Book Name Only: Displays only the chapter and verse numbers. The book name is displayed only at the start of each book.
- Abbreviate book name: When selected, displays the book name as an abbreviation.
- Include text abbreviation: When selected, includes an abbreviation of the text version as part of each reference; for example, "Gen. 1:1 (KJV)."
- Use decimal (.) verse divider: When selected, separates the chapter and verse with a period instead of a colon (European verse notation style).
- Use English book names (foreign language texts only): When selected, displays book names in English. Note that if not selected, the book names appear in the text language (or the alternative names), although entry of verse references is always in English.
