Fonts

Seven fonts are supplied for use with Accordance:

• Accordance Unicode font for the export to convert a file to another format for use in another application. of all characters,
• Helena for Greek,
• Yehudit for Hebrew,
• Peshitta for Syriac,
• Sylvanus for uncial Greek manuscripts and Coptic,
• Salaam for Arabic, and
• Rosetta for transliteration characters.
• The MSS font is used for manuscript citations.

The fonts are installed in the ~/Library/Fonts folder.

To use Accordance fonts with other word processing programs, please refer to the program's or operating system's help documents.

The Character palette displays the special characters in each font and can be used to click and enter the desired character in a User Note or User Tool. A pop-up label identifies each character and reminds you of its keystroke. You can also enter Greek and Hebrew characters by selecting the appropriate international keyboard (set the Mac System Preferences, Language & Region), for easier text entry in the Search Entry box of an appropriate text or field in a tool, in User Notes or Tools, or Description boxes. The text is displayed using Accordance fonts, and not in Unicode.

Another option is to select the Israeli and/or Greek Polytonic Keyboards in the Greek & Hebrew area of the Preferences dialog box. These keyboards (similar to the international ones) are then used automatically when entering text in a Greek or Hebrew field.

Some fonts have different forms for characters depending on their position in a word. All these fonts include special accents and other characters which occur in various overstrike positions for different characters. You do not need to learn all these positions for the different fonts. Accordance lets you type any version of a character, accent or vowel point, and automatically enters the correct character or overstrike position. You can then copy and paste your work into another program, if desired. This option of "smart" character entry as well as other options for entry and export can be set in the Greek and Hebrew area of the Preferences dialog box.
