Tool Search: Triple-click Look-up (Lexicon)

Goal: You look up an important word in a lexicon but you want to highlight the specific verse reference within the article.

This example uses GNT-T and BDAG, but the principles work for any Greek or Hebrew text and lexicon.

Setup

You will need a grammatically tagged GNT such as the GNT-T.

1. Open a Search tab The core tab used to search Bible texts, it consists of a search entry area and a search results area with the GNT-T as the search text.
2. Set the window to search for Verses and press tab to select the contents of the entry box.
3. Enter Jn 1:1 and press Enter.

4. Click in the second word, ảρχή, and amplify To select words or a reference and search for the selection in the text or tool of your choice. You can select the resource in the Library or Amplify menus. A triple-click is a shortcut which amplifies to the top tool of the relevant category. to the BDAG from the Tools tools (Greek Lexicons) of the Library.

   This is done by hovering over the item in the Library until the Amplify To select words or a reference and search for the selection in the text or tool of your choice. You can select the resource in the Library or Amplify menus. A triple-click is a shortcut which amplifies to the top tool of the relevant category. button () appears and clicking it.

   

5. Alternatively, if BDAG is your first Greek lexicon, triple-click on ảρχή.

6. BDAG opens. Since the cursor was resting in the verse, John 1:1, Accordance searched for ảρχή where John 1:1 was also referenced.

   Note If the Reference to John 1:1 is not included in BDAG hits, do one of the following: In the Amplify area of the Preferences dialog box, enable the following item: Include reference when amplifying from text to tool (override with shift key). Press Shift when amplifying to override the above setting.

7. There are two exact hits, one for the word, and one for the reference.
8. Use the Navigation bar to jump to the next hit, which in this case is the John 1:1 reference.
