Understanding Text Order and Notes Order Options

Certain tabs (such as a Text, Reference, or User Notes tabs) provide Text Order or Notes Order options. These are used to determine how text is displayed in the lower panes. For example, if a Greek New Testament text is selected, no Old Testament verses would be displayed in the lower panes. This option is like a filter, removing verses not available in a particular text, whatever the reason. It also displays the verses in the order of that text.

The initial setting of the Text/Note order depends on how the tab was opened. In general it matches the text of the previous tab.

While the Tools and User Tools tabs do not have a Text order setting per se, the Display settings for these tabs (Display>Set Tool Display), as well as the settings in the Preferences dialog box (Tool Display area) affect which text is opened by a reference link.

If the reference is not found in either default text, the Text tab opens, but the verses are not displayed until you change the Text order to an appropriate text. Any open recyclable Text tabs are also set to the new verse reference.

Example: The default texts (Set Tool Display or Preferences dialog box) are ones which do not include the Apocrypha.

If you click a reference link to the Apocrypha, an empty Text tab opens. Simply change the Text order to a Bible which does include the Apocrypha (for example, Douay). If that Text tab remains open, it is reused for the next Apocryphal reference.

There are no default link settings for the User Notes pane, therefore all references link to the text displayed in the Notes order pop-up menu. The User Notes pane displays only the verses in that text but may contain links to other verses. If you click one of those links, a message appears advising the reference could not be found.

Example: You are displaying a note on Mat 1:22 and the Notes order is set to GNT-T. You click a link to Isaiah 7:14 and a message is displayed. Simply click the link to Mat 1:22 to open a Text tab, then choose a text for the Text order which does include Isaiah, leave the tab open and click the reference again.
