Save Tabs and Workspaces

The activeClosed The application, window, tab, or other screen element which is currently being used; sometimes called the "front" or "frontmost" screen element tab or workspace can be saved as an Accordance file. You can also rename the saved tab or workspace. Once saved they can be reopened and used later on.

You can also save all open workspaces, termed a sessionClosed The arrangement of screen elements when working with Accordance. This is an effective way to preserves an entire search or your current working set-up.

  1. Click in the tab you want to save to make it the active tab.
  2. On the File menu, choose Save active tab. The standard Save dialog box appears.

  3. In the Save dialog box, proceed as follows:
  4. Enter a name for the tab.

    The name does not affect the tab label; the name applies only to the Accordance file name. If desired, you can also rename the workspace label (described below).
  5. Navigate to the location where you want the file saved.
  6. Click Save. The active tab is saved in a separate accordance file.

To save the tab with a new name or location, and preserve your previously saved file, choose File>Save As. The Save dialog box reappears and you can save the same file elsewhere.

  1. Click on the workspace you want to save to make it the active workspace.
  2. On the File menu, choose Save. The standard Save dialog box appears.

  4. Enter a name for the workspace.

    The file name also becomes the workspace label (name).
  5. Navigate to the location where you want the file saved.
  6. Click Save. All panes, tabs, and zones are saved with the workspace.

If you want to save the workspace with a new name or location, and preserve your previously saved file, choose File>Save As. The Save dialog box reappears and you can now save the same file elsewhere.

Saving a Workspace with no content is particularly useful if you want to use the same size Workspace with the same items opened or closed (for example a resized Workspace with the Library open and the Toolbar hidden).

  1. Close all open Tabs and Zones. Make sure the Library is open in the Workspace.
  2. On the File menu, choose Save Session. You are asked to enter a name for the saved, empty Workspace.

When you reopen the Workspace, click File>New to add content tabs to it. You can also open a new tab via the Library.

  1. Do one of the following:
  2. On the File menu, choose Open.
  3. Press Ctrl+O.

    The standard Open dialog box appears.
  4. In the Open dialog box navigate to the desired file, select it, and click Open.
  5. If the file was for a saved active tab, the tab opens in its own workspace and becomes the active tab. If desired, you can drag the tab into another workspace or zone.
  6. If the file was for a workspace, it opens with all tabs and zones; in this case the active tab is the one that was active when the workspace was saved and a search is automatically performed.

Note

You can also open a tab or workspace using the Finder. Simply double-click the file in the Finder to launch Accordance and open the tab or workspace.
  1. Click on the tab or workspace to be renamed.
  2. Open the Name dialog box by doing one of the following:
  3. To rename the workspace, choose Window>Set Workspace Name.
  4. To rename the active tab, right-click on the tab and choose Rename Tab.
    You can also choose Tabs & Zones>Set Active Tab Name from the Window menu.
  5. Enter the desired name and click OK. The new name appears in the tab or workspace label area.

When you next open the Save dialog box for that tab or workspace, the new name appears as the default in the Save dialog box. You can save the tab or workspace with the same or a different name.
